The President Media Unit stated that the Maha Sangha invoked blessings on President Mahinda Rajapaksa for the new year this morning.
 
The Maha Sangaha led by Chief Incumbent of the Tangalle Mulagiri Ancient Temple Venerable Mirisse Dhammawansa Thera chanted ‘seth pirith’ at the Tangalle Carlton residence before gave the blessings on the President.

Later the President participated in a ceremony to unveil the pinnacle of a new Chetiya at the Historic Henkaduwa Ancient Temple.

Having offered floral tributes to the new Chetiya, President Rajapaksa participated in an alms giving to 50 monks this noon.

While participating in several opening ceremonies held at Nigala Ancient Temple in Weeraketiya yesterday, the President said that all citizens should participate in the current development effort that started after ending a 3 decades war.

He stressed that the public motto for the New Year should be ‘a developed and righteous country’.
