Will make all influence to solve Sri Lanka's National Issue - Indian Prime Minister
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said his government has made all efforts to persuade Sri Lanka to address the genuine problems of the Tamil population of the island nation.
As far as the fishermen's issue is concerned, Singh said there is an opportunity to resolve matters as there is a government in north Sri Lanka that is representative of Tamils.
Singh said that they feel there is an opportunity for the Tamil population of Sri Lanka, and the Tamil population in Tamil Nadu to sit together, to work out an arrangement between the fishermen of the two countries which will be mutually satisfactory.
The PM has found the Tamil issue tricky to handle having had to cancel his visit to Colombo for the commonwealth heads of government summit last year.
He decided not to go in view of the all around opposition of all political groups in Tamil Nadu.
