A black flag protest was held in the Embilipitiya town opposing Prime Minister D M Jayarathna.

This was over statements made by the Premier against the sangha in the unfolding episode related to the incident where a container of drugs is said to have been released following a letter from the Prime Minister’s office.

The Emibilipitiya Buddhist Collective and residents had organized the protest during which a heated situation also arose, but was brought under control by the police.

Convenor of the Collective Ran-eya Indrasaara Thera requested a new Minister for Buddha Sasana to be appointed.

However, Prime Minister D M Jayarathna today revealed another reason for allegations to be levelled against him for issuing a letter to release a container load of drugs.

The Prime Minister extended an allegation to the Leader of the JHU Ven. Omalpe Sobhitha Thera and stated that there was an incident pertaining to appointing a female to an Urban Council.
