Governors of the Western and Southern Provinces have signed the relevant notifications to dissolve the respective provincial councils.

Southern Province Governor Kumari Balasuriya stated that accordingly the gazette notification has been signed to dissolve the councils with effect from midnight.

Western & Southern Provincial Councils dissolved - Governors sign gazette notification

Governors of the Western and Southern Provinces have signed the relevant notifications to dissolve the respective provincial councils.

Southern Province Governor Kumari Balasuriya stated that accordingly the gazette notification has been signed to dissolve the councils with effect from midnight.

The Chief Ministers had written to the respective governors requesting to dissolve the provincial councils.

The Elections Commissioner will issue the gazette notification calling for nominations within a week.

Western and Southern Provincial councils dissolved

Governors of the Western and Southern Provinces have decided to dissolve the respective provincial council.

The gazette notification has been signed by the governors.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Shan Wijelal De Silva stated that the government does not have to prepare specially for the forthcoming elections.

Signs of Western and Southern Provincial councils been dissolved today

Southern Province Chief Minister Shan Wijelal De Silva stated that the government does not have to prepare specially for the forthcoming elections.

He expressed these views at a media briefing that was held yesterday after having sent a letter to the governor requesting to dissolve the provincial council.

When we inquired regarding this, Southern Province Governor Kumari Balasuriya stated that the provincial council will be most probably dissolved today.

Meanwhile, Western Province Chief Minister Prasanna Ranathunga stated that he too had yesterday requested Governor Alewi Moulana to dissolve the provincial council.

Letters requesting to dissolve the Western and Southern Provincial councils to the governors.

Southern Province governor Kumari Balasuriya states that the Southern Provincial council will be dissolved tomorrow or day after receiving the request from the Chief Minister.

Southern Province Chief Minister Shan Wijelal De Silva stated that a request was made from the governor to dissolve the council.

Chief Minister stated that according to the powers vested with the governor, a provincial council can be dissolved before the official tenure.

Accordingly a written request was made from the Southern Province governor.

Meanwhile, Western Province Chief Minister Prassana Ranathunga stated that a request was made from the governor of the Western province Alawi Maulana to dissolve the council.

Final decision on dissolving Western and Southern Provinces today

Western Province Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga stated that a discussion will be held today to take a final decision regarding the date on which the Western Provincial Council will be dissolved.

The Chief Minister stated that a final decision will be announced by this evening.
