Northern Province Chief Minister C Vigneshwaran visited the Walikada remand prison today to inquire about the well being of Tamil detainees in view of the Taipongal festival which falls on Wednesday.

Speaking to media the Chief Minister stated that the detainees discussed with him about the difficulties they are facing in obtaining legal assistance.

The Chief Minister stated that steps will be taken in future to provide the detainees with necessary legal assistance.

However, Northern Chief Minister had sent a letter to the prisons commissioner before arriving at the Prison.

Prisons Commissioner General G M Kulathunga stated that the Chief Minister wanted to meet the political detainees.

Prisons Commissioner speaking to our news team stated that he made the Chief Minister aware that there are no political detainees in the prison.
