Sri Lanka releases 20 jailed Indian fishermen

The Indian External Affairs Ministry today announced that India and Sri Lanka had begun the process of releasing fishermen trapped in Lankan jails.

Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin tweeted to say that 20 fishermen had been released today.

The fishermen were released by the Mallakam court in Jaffna according to the instructions of the Attorney General.

However, deputy fisheries Minister Sarath Kumara Gunarathna stated that officials of the Ministry will be heading to Indian tomorrow to discuss about the Fishermen issue.
