Supreme Court rules that Homagama Chairman can remain in office.

The Supreme Court ruled today that the Homagama Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman can remain in office until the 30th of this month.

According to the Provincial Council Act, a Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman is considered vacated his post when his budget proposal for a particular fiscal year is defeated twice.

However the tenure of Homagama Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman K.D. Kumarasiri was to expire today, and Kumarasiri filed a fundamental rights case against removing him from the post before the end of his tenure of office.

A panel of 3 Supreme Court Judges who considered the case today ruled that Kumarasiri can stay in office until the 30th of this month.

Homagama Pradeshiya Sabha former Chairman K.D. Kumarasiri expressed his views to our news team regarding the matter.
