A team from the police Special Investigations Unit of Matara police arrested owner of the Kosgoda Turtle Conservation Center Chandrasiri Aabru and his assistant this afternoon.

Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that Aabru was arrested for making a false complaint to the police and violating the Wildlife, Flora and Fauna Act.

However Aabru held a media briefing at his daughter’s house in Ambalangoda before he was arrested today.

Speaking during the media briefing Aabru alluded to the fact that this is a conspiracy in order to clear singer Amal Perera

Chandrasiri Aabru had made a complaint to the Kosgoda police on the 15th of last December saying that an albino turtle was disappeared from his Conservation center.

Following Aabru’s complaint, police questioned vocalist Amal Perera in connection with the disappeared albino turtle.

Police, on a tip-off, found an albino turtle weighing 5 kilograms in the Ambalangoda house belonging to the daughter of the Kosgoda Turtle Conservationist yesterday.

Later Amal Perera identified the albino turtle as the same animal that he sought to buy from Aabru.

Kosgoda Turtle Conservationist arrested

Police Special Investigation Unit arrested owner of the Kosgoda Turtle Conservation Center Chandrasiri Aabru for questioning this afternoon.

Aabru will also be charged for violating the Wildlife, Flora and Fauna Act.

He has given contradictory statements to police in connection with the disappearance of an albino turtle from his Kosgoda Turtle Conservation Center.

Police said Aabru will be questioned in depth with regard to the theft of an albino turtle and his contradictory statements.

Police suspect the stolen albino turtle was dead

Police suspect the albino turtle disappeared from the Kosgoda Turtle Conservation Center was dead.

Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said according to available information, the animal’s carcass could kept preserved.

Although vocalist Amal Perera has claimed that there are similarities in the turtle that he sought to buy and the one found in the conservationist’s daughter’s house, police said that there are differences in the weight of the two animals.

Police, on a tip-off, found an albino turtle weighing 5 kilograms in the Ambalangoda house belonging to the daughter of the Kosgoda Turtle Conservationist yesterday.

Turtle conservationist Chandrasiri Aabru stated in his complaint that the turtle stolen on the 15th of last December was weighing 9 kilograms and Amal Perera demanded the turtle for 3.5 millions rupees in last July.

Police, on a tip-off, searched today the Ambalangoda house belonging to the daughter of the Kosgoda Turtles Conservationist and found an albino turtle weighing 5 kilograms.

Although vocalist Amal Perera has claimed that there are similarities in the turtle that he sought to buy and the one found in the conservationist’s daughter’s house, police said that there are differences in the weight of the two animals.

Turtle conservationist Chandrasiri Aabru stated in his complaint that the turtle stolen on the 15th of last December was weighing 9 kilograms and Amal Perera demanded the turtle for 3.5 million rupees in last August.

Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana also described about the investigations being carried out to identify the correct turtle stolen on the 5th of last December.

When our news team contacted the daughter of the Kosgoda Turtle Conservationist, she said that she cannot comment on the incident without advice from her father.

However a police media communiqué stated that Turtle Conservationist Chandrasiri Aabru has been hospitalized.

Stolen albino turtle found in Ambalangoda?

Police found an albino turtle in the house belonging to the daughter of the owner of the Kosgoda Turtle Conservation Center today.

Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that investigations continue to verify whether the new-found albino turtle is the one which said to be stolen from the Kosgoda Turtle Conservation Center a few weeks ago.
