Video : President describes how Western nations suppressed human and women's rights in Sri Lanka
President Mahinda Rajapaksa stressed today that all the citizens born in this land should enjoy equal rights.
He also said that the policy of this government is to treat all its citizens as members of one community.
Stressing the government’s commitment to mete out equal justice to the village, the city, and the estate community, the president pointed out that development has been equally taking place throughout the country.
The President expressed these views during a ceremony to mark Thaipongal festival held at the President’s House today.
Speaking further the President said the International Community should review their past acts before making allegations against Sri Lanka regarding human rights and women's rights.
