Admission of grade one students today; protests in several areas
The national ceremony to admit students to year-one for 2014 was held at the Niyandagala Vidyakeerthi Junior School in Homagama this morning.
The ceremony was held with the participation of Education Minister Bandula Gunawardana and Health Minister Maithreepala Sirisena.
However a number of protests against the procedure of admitting students to year-one and teacher transfers were held in several areas of the country.
The parents and the teachers staged a protest in front of the Ambilipitiya President’s College alleging that the students living in the neighborhood were denied entry to the college.
Another group of parents also staged a protest in front of the Maradankadawala Vidyalaya claiming that their children were denied entry to the year-one of this school.
Meanwhile another protest in Uhana demanded the cancellation of the transfer of the Uhana Galapitagala Maha Vidyalaya Principal.
No student was admitted to year-one classes of Galapitagala Maha Vidyalaya today due to this protest.
Meantime parents of year-4 students of the Pallama Nandimitra Navoda Central School visited the Puttalam Education Circuit Office and demanded the cancellation of the class teacher’s transfer.
