Deputy Fisheries Minister Sarath Kumara Gunarathna said that 52 fishermen held in Indian jails arrived at the Kankasanturai Port this afternoon.

A team of Sri Lankan authorities are already having discussions with their Indian counterparts in New Delhi over the fisheries disputes between the two countries.

During the initial discussions yesterday, the authorities agreed to release all the fishermen in the custody of both countries, with immediate effect.

The first batch of Sri Lankan fishermen in Indian jails returned to the island as a result of these discussions.
