Video: The US is ready to work together with Sri Lanka in human rights issues
The United States of America has stated that it is prepared to work together with Sri Lanka regarding human rights in the future.
Deputy Media Spokesperson of the US State Department Marie Harf made this statement during the daily media briefing as a response to questions raised regarding United States Ambassador-at-Large for War Crimes Issues Stephen J. Rapp visit to Sri Lanka.
Minister of Justice Rauff Hakeem recently stated that Stephen J. Rapp had arrived in Sri Lanka with pre-conceived notions that Sri Lanka had committed war crimes and journalists had raised questions regarding this during today’s press briefing.
In response to queries of journalists Deputy Media Spokesperson of the US State Department Marie Harf stated that he had toured Sri Lanka to understand the true situation of human rights in the country.
Meanwhile, the UNP states that in order to prevent international interference in Sri Lanka institutions in the country including the judiciary should be independent.
UNP parliamentarian Lakshman Kiriella made this statement while taking part in a press conference held in Colombo today.
