Kshenuka Seneviratne assumed duties as the Secretary to the Ministry of External Affairs this morning. She was appointed to the position that was vacant after the retirement of previous Secretary to the Ministry of External Affairs Karunathilake Amunugama.

She is considered as the first female to be appointed as the Secretary to the Ministry of External Affairs.

Kshenuka has previously served as the Additional Secretary to the Ministry of External Affairs in addition to High Commissioner for Britain and Permanent Representative for Geneva. 

Meanwhile, the previous Secretary to the Ministry of External Affairs Karunathilake Amunugama is to be appointed for an important position at another ministry.
