Radhika's allegations are baseless - says Sri Lankan Ambassador to Canada
The Sri Lankan Ambassador to Canada has responded to the statement made by Canadian opposition MP Rathika Sitsabaiesan who recently toured Sri Lanka.
Sri Lankan born Rathika Sitsabaiesanhad had arrived in Sri Lanka on a tourist visa and the Sri Lankan High Commission had stated that immigration officers had warned her not to engage in political activities in Sri Lanka.
However, reports stated that despite the warning she had met with several representatives of the TNA including parliamentarian M. A. Sumandiran.
During her stay in Sri Lanka Canadian media published various reports stating that Canadian opposition MP Rathika Sitsabaiesan was questioned by Sri Lankan authorities and that she was also detained.
Subsequent to the end of her visit to Sri Lanka she had also claimed that she was questioned by Sri Lankan authorities and that she has plans to express an extended opinion regarding the human rights situation in Sri Lanka.
In response to Canadian opposition MP Rathika Sitsabaiesan’s statement, Sri Lankan Ambassador to Canada Chithrangani Wagishwara had stated that the allegations the Canadian parliamentarian has made were baseless.
The Sri Lankan Ambassador has also stated that MP Rathika Sitsabaiesan had violated traditions that should be observed when a foreign politician travels to another country.
Elaborating further the Sri Lankan Ambassador had stated that MP Rathika Sitsabaiesan’s statement was biased as she had not visited to North.
