Excavations in the Mannar mass grave expanded

Special Judicial Medical Officer of the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital Dr. Dananjaya Waidyarathne states that due to the placement of skeletons and bone fragments in the Manner mass grave the excavations will have to be expanded.

Currently the excavation in the mass grave is 20 meters long and 3 meters wide and approximately 1 and a 1/2  feet deep.

Excavations thus far have revealed bone fragments belonging to 39 individuals.

Bone fragments belonging to two individuals were discovered during yesterday’s excavations and the police suspect that the remains may belong to those in the security forces that were killed by the LTTE.
