The Supreme Court decided today that the fundamental rights of a student were violated as she was denied admittance to the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya in Colombo.

Although the girl was present in front of an interview board seeking admittance to the school, she was not selected to year-one last year.

The girl was sent in front of an appeal board later but the appeal also did not enable the girl to enter the school.

Later the parents of the student filed a fundamental rights case seeking redress for their child.

Having examined the case, Supreme Court Judge Eva Wanasundara ordered the school authorities to admit the victim to the year-2 of the school with immediate effect.

The Judge also ordered the school authorities to pay the victim a compensation of 20 thousand rupees.
