Special Projects Minister to focus on Kidney disease
Special Projects Minister S.M. Chandrasena said that the task of finding a solution to the unknown kidney disease that has been fast spreading in the North Central Province was brought under his purview.
Investigations so far have revealed that a weedicide named glyphosate has caused this disease.
Addressing a media briefing held in Colombo today, the minister said that steps will be taken to prohibit the use of all varieties of weedicide tainted with glyphosate in paddy fields.
Our news team contacted a member of the research team which discovered the cause for this disease for the first time and a lecturer of Rajarata University
Dr. Channa Jayasumana to comment on the developments.
He said that glyphosate, when mixed with water would act as a carrier to bring in poison substance such as Azonic and Cadmium into the human body.
