The National Electricity Consumer’s Movement stated that the Electricity Board will have to continue power cuts if water levels of reservoirs decline further.

The power generation of 6 stations including Norochcholai has already been interrupted due to breaks-downs.

The maximum daily electricity demand of the country is one thousand 958 mega watts, but 625 mega watts or nearly 32 percent of power generation has already been lost.

Electricity Unions stated that this is the first time in the history of the CEB which reported the highest number of breaks-down of power station at one point.

Kerawalapitiya power station also failed to generate power yesterday due to a sudden fault and the CEB had to interrupt power for 25 minutes to several parts of the island without prior notice.

Under these circumstances, how would the CEB face the challenge of generating necessary power for the country?

Consultant of the National Electricity Consumers Movement Bandula Chandrasekera stated that due to the substantial overheads required for power generation power cuts will have to be implemented in the near future.

Our news team also contacted CEB’s Deputy General Manger and Media Spokesman Senajith Dasanayake in this regard

He stated that there is no requirement for power cuts at the moment.

However, elaborating further he stated that if any more power plants become inoperable, power cuts would be inevitable.
