The strike initiated by locomotive drivers this morning based on 5 demands including salaries and promotions concluded this afternoon.

Speaking to our news team Chairman of the Locomotive Drivers Association I. L. K. Dissanayaka stated that the decision to halt the strike was taken subsequent to discussions held this afternoon.

Elaborating further he stated that due to this strike approximately 20 train runs were cancelled today.

However the train control centre stated that only 10 runs were cancelled.

However, speaking further Chairman of the Locomotive Drivers Association I. L. K. Dissanayaka stated that railway activities are back on track.

Farmers have been placed in great difficulty as they have been unable to sell the produce being brought to the Dambulla Economic Centre.

Our regional correspondent stated that large amounts of vegetables such as cabbage, pumpkins, radish and long beans were discarded today as a result of farmers not being able to sell them.

In addition approximately 40,000 kilograms of chilli and vegetables that were brought to the Dambulla Economic Centre has been transported to the Digampathana Forest Reserve to be given to wild elephants.

Speaking to our news team the manager of the Dambulla Economic Centre stated that this situation has arisen as there are not enough vendors to purchase the produce that is being brought to the centre.
