The private member motion brought in by MP Wijedasa Rajapaksa seeking provisions to prevent the use of unfair and partial trials by removing Supreme Court Judges was rejected in parliament today.

34 members of the house voted for the bill while 72 voted against it.

When the bill was introduced in parliament on a previous occasion, the Speaker said that it could be taken for debate following the approval of majority of the members in house.

However when the bill was presented by UNP MP Wijedasa Rajapaksa in parliament today, the government members rejected to debate the Bill.
