A programme was held for creating awareness among the people about the speedy commencement of a new Kelani bridge complete with four lane entrances to the Colombo-Katunayake expressway.
That was under the patronage of Colombo District MP R. Dumindha Silva.
The total length of the new Kelani bridge scheduled to be constructed across the Kelani river at a cost of 45 billion rupees with the support of the Japanese government is 415 metres.
Steps have been taken to construct this new Kelani bridge as an option in view of the traffic congestion at the Kelani bridge at the entrance to the express way and surrounding areas.
A programme for creating awareness about this bridge expected to be completed in three years was held under the patronage of Colombo District MP R. Dumindha Silva at the Sedawatta Sri Navaloka Buddhist Temple.
Officials of the Road Development Authority and those of several Government institutions participated in this awareness programme.
Addressing the gathering Colombo District MP R. Duminda Silva said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa had begun the development war.
After the function MP R. Duminda Silva engaged in a cordial discussion with the people who had come for the function.
