The Election Commissioner has decided to not issue the Election Department Identity Cards for the Provincial Council candidates unless they declare their private assets.

The Commissioner educated the party secretaries on the matter on last Friday.  Election candidates are not permitted to enter vote counting centers without possessing this particular Identity Card.

The Commissioner has also told party secretaries that each candidate who want to hand over nominations should submit his or her private asset declaration to the Commissioner.

Meanwhile PAFFREL representatives met Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya this morning

They expect to educate the Election Commissioner that no PC minister or member has yet returned their official vehicles or other public assets although the Southern and the Western Provincial Councils were dissolved 2 weeks ago.
