Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya says that civilian groups will be appointed to each police division to monitor violation of election laws and report them to the police.

Addressing a media briefing being held at his office in Rajagiriya, the Commissioner said that, except a few matters, only the police have powers to deal with incidents of violation of election rules.

He also said that services of 2 hundred thousand government servants will be obtained to conduct the Western and Southern Provincial elections.
