Reduction in illegal immigrants including Sri Lankans sailing to Australia
The Australian Immigration Authorities say that during the recent past the number of foreign immigrants including Sri Lankans illegally entering Australia by sea has substantially decreased.
Giving an update of details about the operation for safeguarding the Australian geographical boundaries, the Australian Government said that during the past 36 days no immigrant boat had entered Australia.
This is the longest period since March 2009 in which no immigrant boat came to Australia.
The Australian government also points out that similarly the number of boats that thus come decreases by 80 per cent within the first 100 days after the implementation of the illegal immigrant control operation.
