The number of Provincial Council members for the districts of Colombo, Galle and Matara has been slashed while the number for the districts of Gampaha, Kalutara and Hambantota has been increased.

The Election Secretariat stated that the Colombo district will lose 3 seats and 2 of them be added to Kalutara while the balance is added to Gampaha.

The Colombo district was allocated 43 member seats in the last Western Provincial Council election held in 2009 but it will get only 40 seats in the forthcoming election.

With the new allocations, the number of members of Kalutara district will rise from 20 to 22 while the Gampaha district member seats will rise from 39 to 40.

One hundred and 2 members will be elected to the Western Provincial Council in the forthcoming election, and the Council is entitled to 2 bonus seats as well.

Meanwhile the Galle and the Matara districts will lose one member seat each and those two seats will be added to Hambantota district.

The Galle district was allocated 23 member seats in the Provincial Council election in 2009, and that number will reduce to 22 in the forthcoming election.

The 18 seats allocated for the Matara earlier will be reduced to 17 this time while the 12 number of seats of Hambantota will rise to 14 seats this time due to the revision of member seats allocation.

53 members will be elected to the Southern Provincial Council and it is entitled to 2 bonus seats as well.
