Video : Operations of Sapugaskanda oil refinery unit crippled; says Trade unions.
Petroleum Trade Unions stated that operations of the Crude Oil processing unit of the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery was disrupted due its power generating system was crippled this morning.
President of the Petroleum Public Workers Union Ashoka Ranwala told our news team that the refining of crude oil in the Sapugaskanda factory has currently been ceased.
Meanwhile Petroleum Industries Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa accompanied by senior officials of the Petroleum Corporation inspected the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery today.
After the inspection tour, Petroleum Corporation Managing Director Susantha de Silva told our news team, although a few refining machines were under repair, the oil refining activities were continuing as usual.
Petroleum Corporation Chairman S. Amarasekera also joined the inspection tour today and he responded to our questions with regard to the charges made by the trade unions.
However Petroleum Public Workers Union President Ashoka Ranwala warned that the Sapugaskanda Refinery will have to face much difficulties in the future unless a new unit of boilers is installed without delay.
