A 16-year old girl attached to a children’s home in Galle died today after mistakenly consumed poisonous Olinda seeds.

The victim was studying in Year-11 of the Dangedara Jayawardana Maha Vidyalaya in Galle.

During trainings for the school’s inter-house sports meet, the victim and two of her fellow students had eaten Olinda seeds for not knowing its poisonous effect.

Meanwhile a student of Galle Richmond College who attempted to fell an ariconut tree died after falling from the tree.

Police said the 17-year old student who was hospitalized after the fall on the 31st of last month died yesterday night.

This student of Year 12 Maths Class had gone to Galketiya area to fell an ariconut tree to be used for the school’s inter-house sports meet scheduled to be held tomorrow.

However the student’s mother and the brother complained that the victim died as he was denied proper treatment by hospital authorities.

When our news team contacted Karapitiya Hospital Deputy Director Dr. Jayampathi Senanayake said that an internal inquiry has been initiated to probe the incident.

A student of Galle Richmond College who attempted to fell an ariconut tree died after falling from the tree.

Police said the 17-year old student who was hospitalized after the fall on the 31st of last month died yesterday night.

This student of Year 12 Maths Classes had gone to Galketiya area to fell an ariconut tree to be used for the school’s inter-house sports meet scheduled to be held tomorrow.

Meanwhile the student’s mother and the brother complained that the victim died as he was denied proper treatment.

Our news team contacted the Karapitiya Hospital Director Dr. Shelton Perera to comment on the allegations.

He said that the hospital provided this student with all treatments that the hospital should give him.
