Schools in Gampaha and Galle closed.
The Kalutara South Police arrested last night seven vehicles that had violated election rules.
The police said that 13 persons had been arrested in this regard and released on bail.
The police said further that the vehicles thus apprehended belonged to a UNP candidate.
The election secretariat has by now received 50 complaints in connection with election the Western and Southern Province election.
The majority of these complaints are from the Colombo District.
The police said that some candidates had acted in violation of election rules after handing over nominations.
However the police requests the candidates to refrain from having processions after handing over nominations.
Meanwhile the education authorities have decided to close down several schools in the Western and Southern Province today which is the last day for accepting nominations.
Gampaha Zone Education Director S. K. MallawaArachchi told our news team that accordingly 13 schools in the Gampaha District would be closed today.
Southern Province Education Director Jayatissa Block said that schools in the vicinity of main cities of the Southern Province too would be closed at 10.30 a.m.
