The Election Commissioner has issued a circular to the Department of Education instructing Principals not to involve election candidates and supporting politicians in school ceremonies.

The circular stated that such actions could promote the image of candidates therefore the action has been categorized as a violation of election rules.

Meanwhile Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya had a discussion with the Secretaries of all political parties at his office in Rajagiriya this morning.

Attention was drawn to certain former PC ministers and PC members who have not returned their official assets including official vehicles.

The Commissioner insisted that the cost of official assets and vehicles should be charged from the candidates if they violate election rules and use them continuously.
