An issue has occurred due to marine water mixing into the water of Kalu Ganga, causing difficulties in supplying water for certain areas.
Therefore, the Water Board has taken measures to block the river-mouth of Kalu Ganga with sand bags.
However, Secretary to the Ministry of Water Supply and Drainage Amarananda Abeygunasekara said that they have taken measures to supply water through bowsers for the areas depending on Kalu Ganga.
Meanwhile, President Mahinda Rajapaksa instructed during a recent cabinet meeting to prioritize the supply of drinking water.
Therefore, the Electricity board is now generating most of its power via thermal power plants.
However, according to a spokesman representing the electric engineers’ union, if there is a sudden failure at the Norochcholai power plant which provides 300 megawatts to the national grid, then there might be interruptions to the power supply.
Meanwhile, the Met department said that rainfall can be expected during the next few days.
