Civil Aviation Minister Priyankara Jayarathna says that Sri Lanka does not need another international airport.

He stated that the resolution passed by the Northern Provincial Council regarding direct flights was amusing.

The Northern Provincial Council which met yesterday passed three resolutions including one to set up direct flights from Palali and Trincomalee to India.

When our news team contacted Civil Aviation Minister Priyankara Jayarathna to comment on the new resolutions, he pointed out that no international airport can be set up without his ministry approval.

The other two resolutions are to actively utilise the Kankasanturai harbour for Northern development and restart the ferry service between Talai Mannar and Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu.
