Video: A challenge to Internal Trade Minister
UNP MP Hareen Fernando challenged Cooperative and Internal Trade Minister Johnston Fernando for a public debate on prices of consumer goods today.
The UNP MP posed the challenge for the Minister during a media briefing held in Colombo this afternoon.
Responding to a comment made by Minister Fernando over a sack of goods worth 5 thousand rupees, UNP MP Fernando invited the Minister for this debate.
Earlier UNP Leadership Council Chairman MP Karu Jayasuriya had said that consumer goods worth of 5 thousand rupees today could be wrapped in a 5 rupees shopping bag.
Later Minister Johnston Fernando reacted to MP Jayasuriya’s argument and brought a fertilizer-sack of consumer goods before journalists during a media briefing held last Wednesday.
Taking out one by one from the sack and while naming them, Minister Fernando said that he spent only 5 thousand rupees for the hamper of essential items on his table.
However MP Hareen Fernando also brought a 5 rupees worth shopping bag of goods valued at 5 thousand rupees to a media briefing held in Colombo today.
Showing off the goods one by one, MP Fernando said that he used only a 5 rupees worth shopping bag to carry 5 thousand rupees worth goods as described by MP Karu Jayasuriya a few days ago.
