Heart operations come to standstill at government hospitals.
The Hearts and Lungs Locators Association says that they will start a continuous strike as negotiations with the authorities on several demands including salary anomalies failed.
Hearts and Lungs Locators Association Deputy Chairman Mangala Jayasinghe said that the strike is already in place at Colombo National Hospital, Kandy General Hospital and Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.
Heart operations are performed only in Colombo National Hospital, Kandy General Hospital, Karapitiya Teaching Hospital and Lady Ridgeway Children Hospital.
Hearts and Lungs Locators Association members attached to the Lady Ridgeway Children Hospital are scheduled to join the strike with effect from tomorrow.
Hospital authorities told our news team that heart surgeries at other hospitals have been disrupted due to the strike.
