JHU expresses displeasure over decision of Amarapura Saddhamma Vansika Chapters decision to ban Buddhist monks from politics
The JHU stated that it cannot agree with the decision taken by the Amarapura Saddhamma Vansika Chapter to prevent Buddhist monks from engaging in political activities.
Addressing a media briefing held in Colombo today, JHU Central Working Committee member Tebuwana Piyananda Thera announced his party’s decision.
The Working Committee of the Saddhamma Vansika Chapter who met early this week decided that its member monks should not participate in protests or engage in any political activities without obtaining prior approval.
Co-Registrar of the Chapter Venerable Kosgoda Sirimitta Thera told our news team that the decision taken by his Chapter will be proposed to other Chapters of the same Nikaya when they meet in Colombo tomorrow.
Meanwhile Bodu Bala Sena Organization announced yesterday that it would no longer stage street protests nor hold protest marches.
Its General Secretary Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera announced this decision during a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday.
