Southern Command chief inaugurates IPKF war memorial

An Indian Peace Keeping Force war memorial was inaugurated at a somber ceremony at the Sudarshan Chakra corps in Bhopal by Lieutenant General Ashok Singh, General Officer Commanding-in- Chief of the Southern Command, which is headquartered in Pune.

The names of 1,200 martyrs who laid their lives in the service to the nation are inscribed at the war memorial.

The IPKF was the Indian Armed Forces contingent which undertook peace keeping operations in Sri Lanka between 1987 and 1990.
