Ban Buddhist monks from politics - request forwarded to Siyam and Ramaagngna chapters
The Siri Saddhamma Vansika Chapter of the Amarapura Nikaye informed its decision that prevents member monks from political activities to other 21 Chapters of the same Nikaya today.
Registrar of the Siri Saddhamma Vansika Chapter Venerable Kosgoda Sirimitta Thera said that the other two main Nikayas, Siyam and Ramaagngna have also been requested to follow suit.
A JHU parliamentarian, Athuraliye Rathana Thera also belongs to the Siri Saddhamma Vansika Chapter of the Amarapura Nikaye.
Meanwhile Registrar of the Siri Saddhamma Vansika Chapter Venerable Kosgoda Sirimitta Thera said that the decision taken by his Chapter would not applicable to the past.
However Sirimitta Thera further explained what disciplinary action could be taken against monks if anyone disregards the Sangha Sabha decision and tries to engage in politics.
