The International Red Cross Society has decided to conduct a census about families of persons gone missing during the recent past.
The IRCS decided this in view of complaints it has received with regard to disappearances.
The IRCS Colombo office has received 16 thousand complaints about persons gone missing from 1990.
4500 of these have been received from families of army and police officers while engaged in security service.
IRCS Colombo office spokesperson Sarasi Wijeratna said that while this census carried out island-wide with regard to persons gone missing would begin in April this year, subsequently the recommendations made about this would be submitted to the Government.
