Video : Update : Participation of several teachers in the dispute at Gampaha Bandaranayake Vidyalaya revealed; Cadet Corp suspended
It has been revealed that several teachers of the Gampaha – Bandaranayake National School had orchestrated the dispute which occurred yesterday at the school.
Gampaha Zonal Educational Director S. K. Mallawarachchi stated that this was revealed during a discussion that was held at the school under the patronage of the National Educational Director of the Ministry of Education.
Several old pupils of the school and the SSP in charge of the Gampaha region took part in this discussion in addition to the principal of the school.
The teachers who took part in the discussion had revealed the involvement of the teachers who orchestrated the dispute.
Gampaha Zonal Educational Director S. K. Mallawarachchi stated that the National Educational Director decided to take disciplinary action against the teachers in question following the revelations made at the discussion.
The students of the Gampaha – Bandaranayake National School engaged in a protest yesterday claiming that the Principal of the school is acting in an authoritarian manner by involving the police in general administration activities of the school.
The protesting students proceeded to cause damage to the CCTV system of the school and had assaulted media personnel that had gone to the school to cover the disturbance.
Accordingly the Ministry of Education took the decision to close the Gampaha – Bandaranayake National School indefinitely.
However, Gampaha Zonal Educational Director S. K. Mallawarachchi stated that following the discussion held today, a decision was taken to reopen grades 6, 7, 8 and 9 next Monday.
Elaborating further Gampaha Zonal Educational Director stated that a decision was also taken to suspend the cadet corp. of the school as well.

Journalists protest against Gampaha - Bandaranayaka Vidyalaya students' assault.
The students of Gampaha Bandaranayake Vidyalaya who assaulted journalists during the mayhem yesterday have not been arrested yet.
A group of area correspondents of Gampaha staged a protest in front of the Gampaha Railway Station demanding disciplinary actions against the culprits.
The school students staged a protest yesterday charging that their principal has sought police assistance in school administration and ushered strict control over students.
A group of students assaulted two journalists including our correspondent who were covering the incident yesterday.
Later Education Department authorities closed the Gampaha Bandaranayake Vidyalaya indefinitely.
Meanwhile a meeting to discuss about the re-opening of the school is currently being held at the school.
Gampaha Zonal Education Director S.K. Mallawa Arachchi said that yesterday’s incident will also be discussed during the ongoing meeting.
