Sri Lanka has not carried out an independent investigation: says US Give room for a National solution: a statement from South Africa.
Addressing the Human Rights Conference yesterday US Deputy Secretary Saaraa Sevol said that Sri Lanka had not been successful enough to hold a fair and credible investigation about the last period of the war.
However reports also said that the Tamil Diaspora had expressed its displeasure with regard to the resolution the US had submitted against Sri Lanka.
That is on the grounds that it contains various weaknesses.
However, addressing the Human Rights Council, South Africa’s International Relations Minister Emali Kohnaa said that South Africa would support a solution prepared by Sri Lankans themselves.
Her view was that the international community should support such a solution.
Indian Media reported that the Indian Government is undecided yet, over the Anti Sri Lankan resolution to be presented by the U.S. before the UN Human Rights Commission sessions.
Quoting top government sources, the media stated that the officials wanted more time to study the proposal in depth before a decision is taken.
