Minister G L addresses Geneva conference today
Minister of External Affairs, Professor G.L. Peiris who leads the Sri Lanka delegation to the 25th Session of the Human Rights Council is scheduled to deliver the Sri Lanka National Statement at the High Level Segment of the HRC today.
As is customary for leaders of the delegations, Minister Peiris will meet High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navanethem Pillay on Thursday.
He will also consult with Like Minded Countries, particularly on matters relating to Sri Lanka that are scheduled to come up during the present Session.
On the sidelines of the High Level Segment of the HRC, Minister Peiris will be also meeting with heads of delegations of member states.
The resolution on Sri Lanka calling for an international independent and credible investigation into alleged humanitarian and human rights law violations has been reportedly tabled at the 25th session of United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva.
The Draft Resolution "Promoting reconciliation, accountability, and human rights in Sri Lanka" has been submitted by the United States, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Montenegro, Macedonia, and Mauritius at today's session.
