A potential head on collision between the ‘Podi Manike’ train which was berthed at the Hatton Station and a maintenance train was avoided today due to the shouting of passengers and railway employees.
The ‘Podi Manike’ train which was travelling from Fort in Colombo to Badulla had reached the first platform of the Hatton station at approximately 11.30 this morning.
At the same time a maintenance train travelling from Hatton to Nawalapitiya was travelling towards the ‘Podi Manike’ train.
However the maintenance train was stopped only following the intervention of passengers in the maintenance train.
At the time there were a large number of passengers aboard the ‘Podi Manike’ train.
Our news team inquired from the Hatton Station Master D. L. Kulasiri regarding this and in response he stated that an inquiry is already underway regarding the incident.
