An Old boy and two other students of Gampaha Bandaranayake Vidyalaya who allegedly assaulted journalists during the mayhem were released on bail today.

The suspects released on 50 thousand rupees personal bail each when they were produced before Gampaha Magistrate Tikiri Jayatilake.

Later the Magistrate severely warned the suspects and told them not to involve in similar incidents.

Suspect Praveen Vinodpriya was identified as a past pupil of the school and two others were identified as Year-12 students Sakalanka Munasinghe and Asanka Karavita.

Police informed the Magistrate that suspect Vinodpriya who left the school last year but came in school uniform to involve in the clash incident.

The lawyer appeared for journalists requested the Magistrate to remand the suspect as they have assaulted the journalist while they were providing information to the public.

At that point, Magistrate Tikiri Jayatilaka said that the Court has authority to hear cases as much as the media has rights to report.

Meanwhile Gampaha Bandaranayake Vidyalaya Principal, its development society and old boys association apologized to our correspondent who was targeted during the mayhem.

Gampaha Bandaranayake Vidyalaya was closed indefinitely after a tense situation followed by a student protest against the school principal on last Monday.

Later authorities decided to reopen classes for Year-6, Year-7, Year-8, and Year-9.

Three Gampaha Bandaranayake Vidyalaya students arrested


Police arrested three students of Gampaha Bandaranayake Vidyalaya in connection with the recent clash incident.

Police Media spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that two of them are year 13 students while the other student is year-12 student.

Gampaha Bandaranayake Vidyalaya was closed indefinitely after a tense situation followed by student protest against the school principal on last Monday.

Later authorities decided to reopen classes for Year-6, Year-7, Year-8, and year-9.
