The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay reiterated her call for the UN Human Rights Council to establish its own international inquiry mechanism into Sri Lanka.
Presenting her final annual report as High Commissioner for Human Rights to the 25th session of UNHRC in Geneva yesterday, Pillay said in the nearly five years after the end of the conflict, the Sri Lankan Government has failed to satisfy the Council's call for a credible and independent investigation into allegations.
Meanwhile Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe charged that UN Human Rights Commissioner Navaneedan Pillay is engaged in a false propaganda war against Sri Lanka.
Minister Samarasinghe was the former head of Sri Lanka delegation to Geneva Human Rights Commission sessions.
Addressing a public gathering in Mathugama today, Minister Samarasinghe said that the international community put aside the effort of protecting human rights in this country and be jealous of Sri Lanka instead.
