Airline officials have confirmed that there were no Sri Lankans on board the Malaysia Airlines flight which went missing en route to Beijing China.

The Malaysia Airlines flight carrying 239 people from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing disappeared today after losing contact with air traffic controllers.

Vietnamese media reports say that the Vietnamese Navy has confirmed the missing Malaysian airlines plane crashed into the ocean.

According to Navy Admiral Ngo Van Phat, military radar recorded that the plane crashed into the sea at a location 153 miles South of Phu Quoc island.

Malaysia Airlines flight carrying 239 people from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing disappeared Saturday after air traffic controllers lost contact with the plane.

Malaysia Airlines said people from 14 nationalities were among the 227 passengers, including at least 152 Chinese, 38 Malaysians, 12 Indonesians, six Australians and three Americans.

China deployed two rescue ships in the South China Sea to begin a search.

Malaysia Airlines 'loses contact with plane'

Malaysia Airlines says it has lost contact with a plane travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, with 239 people on board.

The airline said in a statement that flight MH370 disappeared at 18:40 GMT yesterday.

Malaysia Airlines is currently working with the authorities who have activated their search and rescue team to locate the aircraft.

The flight was carrying 227 passengers, including two infants, and 12 crew members.
