The Environment and Nature Education Center states that five elephants have been kept illegally in an aristocratic house at Arawwala in Maharagama.

National Coordinator of the organization Ravindra Kariyawasam told our news team that two of the five elephants are calves.

He also said that these elephants could have been poached from a forest and injuries were sighted on their bodies.

When our news team contacted the Wildlife Department authorities, its Operation Director S.A. Weerarathna said that his department would ascertain soon whether any elephant is illegally kept by an individual party.
