The Prisons Department says that applications for the post of hangman currently vacant in the Prisons Department, have been received by email from two persons of Australian nationality.

Prisons Commissioner General Chandrarathna Pallegama told our news team that according to the country’s rules foreigners could not be recruited for this post.

The person recently recruited for the post of hangman submitted a letter saying that he cannot perform the duties and kept away from reporting for work with effect from last Monday.

He is a resident of Nochchiyaagama in Anuradhapura.

The Prisons Commissioner General said that very soon applications will be called again for the post of hangman.
