Pre ordained monk arrested on suspicion of assaulting Buddhist Monk in Elpitiya
A pre ordained monk of the Elpitiya Sri Saranankara Temple has been arrested in suspicion of assaulting and severely injuring the chief incumbent of the temple Venerable Waththawe Pagngna – keerthi Thero.
An individual has entered the temple this morning and assaulted the thero and as a result the 62 year old Venerable Waththawe Pagngna – keerthi Thero was severely injured.
The thero was admitted to the Elpitiya hospital for treatment before being transferred to the Karapitiya Hospital in Galle.
A special team from the Elpitiya Police initiated a special inquiry into the incident and based on information revealed the pre ordained monk from the temple was arrested.

A Buddhist monk has been attacked with a sharp weapon by a group of persons at a temple in 9th post, Elpitiya, Galle this morning.
The injured is a 62 year old Chief Incumbent of Elpitiya Sri Saranankara Vihara, Venerable Weththawe Panyakeerthi Thero.
The police investigations have revealed that a group of armed persons have entered the temple and attacked the monk.
The monk who received grave injuries has been admitted to Elpitiya Base Hospital, and was later transferred to Karapitiya Hospital in Galle.
According to the hospital sources, after receiving essential treatment at the ICU, the monk has been moved to a normal ward.
