Mathara District Assistant Election Commissioner W.H.R. Wijekumara said that an investigation will be carried out under the supervision of an Assistant Election Commissioner to probe the burning of a bundle of poll cards at Wilpita in Akuressa.

A postman in Wilpita area had complained to the police emergency unit a few days ago that two unidentified persons came in a motor bicycle and snatched 167 poll cards from his possession.

However Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that investigations to this incident revealed that the poll cards were put on fire by the postman’s mother at their home.

The police that probed a complaint made to police emergency call 119 by a postman in Walpita in Akuressa saying that two persons who had come riding a motor cycle had made headway with 167 polling cards, has discovered that it was a bogus complaint.

About 10 days ago his mother had set fire to a stock of polling cards at his home.
