Reports said that MP Thilanga Sumatipala had intervened and got notorious Narcotics trafficker Anuraadha alias Magazine Road Mahatturu released from detention while under Borella police custody.
The Borella police officer who arrested the Narcotics trafficker concerned, had also made a log entry about it at the Borella Headquarter Police.
This suspect was arrested at a people’s rally held at Vanatamulla in Borella with Thilanga Sumatipala at the chair.
Anuradha alias Magazine Road Mahatturu had gone to the people’s rally held under the chairmanship of MP Thilanga Sumatipala at Vanatamulla in Borella last Saturday with the MP’s security guards.
The Borella police officers on duty on that occasion had taken action to arrest the suspect after ensuring themselves of his identity by comparing the photographs in their possession.
This suspect considered as a notorious narcotics trafficker is an escapee from police custody on a previous occasion.
MP Thilanga Sumatipala had come to the place of suspect’s arrest after the arrest and rescued the Narcotics trafficker by force.
It is stated in the log entry made by the police officer who arrested the suspect that the MP threatened and reprimanded the officer concerned using rude language for arresting the MP’s friend.
We inquired about this from police media spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana.
He said the incident was reported on the 15th and a log note was made.
The note states that the suspect is a wanted for the crime of selling drugs and narcotics.
We inquired from the police media spokesman further what legal action could be taken with regard to obstructing a police officer in such a manner.
SSP stated that such a person can be arrested and produced before courts and legal action can be taken.
