The march was organized in protest of slashing student welfare including hostel facilities by university administration.

Police protection was beefed up around the Kelaniya University since this morning due to the proposed student protest march.

Police took steps to check identity cards of students at the university entrance this morning, and students showed total objection.

However before the protest march began in Kelaniya this morning, police took steps to enlighten students regarding the Court ruling preventing the march today.

However, students commenced the protest march disregarding the orders.
